Make a difference

So you want to be an Entrepreneur….

Posted by in Startup Tips

It has been an year exactly since we got into our Entrepreneurship journey.   It has been one exhilarating ride till now.  And while we sit on the other side of 365 days, here are some comments that come to mind from friends and well wishers…

It is not going to be easy to do something like this.  Stay focused.

You guys have guts to do something like this!

I want to do this either, but I have commitments.  Will you be open to sleeping partners…

Most of what they said, makes complete sense.

When you start your business, you run on your enthusiasm for the first 90 days.   Then you realize that the money you planned to use, is drying up- much faster than you had anticipated.

And you start wondering what to do next.

Here is a compilation of thoughts that we have gone through and learnt post 365 days of flying, running, walking, crawling…   in that order.  And then the flying starts again.

Here is the first tip!

Irrespective of what you plan, what you think, what your friends tell you…. the time it takes to turn around a business is anywhere between 12-18 months!  Plan to stick around that- and ensure your family is fully supportive.  Without a supportive family, it will be a struggle. With a supportive family, it will be a blessing! You will want to do more!

Don’t go on the basis of people who “Make it” in 3-6 months.  For every company that makes that happen, there will be a 1000 more, that will not be able to get to that timeline.

It is better to err on the side of safety!

Go live your dream!

The One Book You Need To Read on Dec 31

Posted by in Books, Motivation, Personal Branding, Personal Effectiveness

As we end 2014, it is time to reflect and plan for the next year.  Whilst, most of us, will be planning on new goals, here is my suggestion!

Plan NOT to make any new year resolutions!

At least not yet.

Instead, think of what we should be doing – to ensure we can sustain beyond 48 hours! Without feeling defeated by not being able to adhere to our own resolutions!

And the reason is simple why we fail.  It is because resolutions are “DIFFICULT TO KEEP”.  They are designed to fail- and we just CANNOT make them successful.

At least the majority of us.

Instead, what is required is “MINI HABITS” – that will set you up for success.  In a way, where you trick your brain to think it is actually possible- and to make it happen.

May I suggest, you start with buying this book – and in keeping with the times, download it through Amazon and give it a read. It is easy- and you can finish it in a couple of hours.

This book is especially very useful if you find making your commitments stick.   This is an easy read- and you will enjoy this.

This may be the best book to start your new year with!

Try the book out.  And if you do decide to try out some of the ideas in it- I guarantee this to you- you will have a glorious time ahead.

So there.  All the best.

Have a grand 2015- and my wishes for the greatest year of your life.

Overcoming Writers Block…

Posted by in Blogging

For someone who has had a serious case of Writers Block, and even more serious, a condition of Serial Procrastination, I recommend this book – Chicken Soup for the Soul – Inspiration for Writers.   This book has 101 stories all written by people who have been afflicted by the same syndrome – and who overcame it.

Coming as it does, in the end of 2014, and the beginning of 2015, this is a good thing.

Happy New Year to all of you- and I wish you a great journey of discovery and writing- as I.

Heroes of Bangalore

Do you remember reading the book- Influence without Authority?

You should, if you have not.

How many of us complain about not being given a chance to prove our worth?  How many of us walk away from opportunities, just because we feel we are not  qualified or not allowed to.

Here is an example of someone who went beyond their situation. A couple of weeks back, I was trying to reach home during the climax of the Ganesh Chaturthi.   The entire stretch of Coles Road on Frazer Town, Bangalore was jam packed. As is wont in India, every inch of the road is taken up with every possible vehicle.

Suddenly, I heard a series of whistles, and the vehicles started moving slowly.  Another 15 minutes later, the traffic started moving smoothly.   Unheard of here in Bangalore.   A small, diminutive man, stood in the middle of the road and managed the traffic for the next 30 minutes.   Once the jam cleared, I saw him walking away and to my amazement, saw him getting into an auto.

Ali, the auto driver, is one true hero of Bangalore.

I caught up with him later- and asked him about this.  He said, he was not allowed to be a traffic supervisor, and hence, whenever he got a chance, he did what he loved.

Here was a man, who, theoretically, has no authority.  He is usually the one who gets scolded for not following basic road rules.  The last man, you would expect to do something like this.

He taught me something very important that night.

Don’t wait for someone to give you authority to get anything done.  Take what you have, and do what you can.   Make the most of what you have.

Salutes to you, Ali.  You truly rock.

You are my motivation!
